1960 Austin Healey “Bugeye” Sprite
Name: Gill Beyer, 67, Sandpoint, Idaho.
Purchased: Summer of 2003
Why I Love It: I spent over three years restoring it from the “Basket Case” that was put on a trailer and brought home from Tacoma in the summer of 2003. Probably the best part of driving this car around are the reactions from people that see it. Earlier this year, late May or early June, I stopped at a small cafe in Clark Fork, Idaho. As we were going in a motorcyclist in full leathers was coming out. He looked at my car – not much bigger than his motorcycle and probably weighs less – and says, “Nice ride!” as he mounts up and rumbles off. It never fails to attract attention wherever I go. Maybe we have lost some of the fun of driving from the time when British and European Sports Cars were a common sight on the roads.
Our next car will be: Another work in process – it’s a 1972 MGB.
